Frequently Asked
Questions

  • Psychotherapy, often called “talk therapy,” is a collaborative process where you work with a trained therapist to explore your thoughts, feelings, and patterns. It provides a safe, supportive space to understand what’s contributing to your stress and burnout, develop coping strategies, and create meaningful changes in your life.

Therapy is not about being judged or “fixed”- it’s about gaining insight, support, and tools to navigate challenges and reconnect with your energy, balance, and well-being.

  • Absolutely not, you do not need to be in crisis to begin therapy. Many people start therapy because they’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, disconnected, navigating a life transition, or simply wanting a space to better understand themselves and improve their overall well-being. Therapy can be helpful whether you’re facing a specific challenge or simply looking for support, growth, and greater balance in your life. You don’t have to wait until things feel unbearable to reach out, support is valuable at every stage of your journey.

  • It’s completely understandable to feel hesitant about trying therapy again if you’ve had a previous experience that didn’t feel helpful or supportive. Sometimes the approach, timing, or therapeutic relationship may not have been the right fit - and that can make a meaningful difference in the therapy experience.

We believe therapy should feel collaborative, supportive, and tailored to your unique needs and goals. Our team works closely with clients to create a space where you feel comfortable, understood, and genuinely supported. Even if therapy hasn’t felt helpful in the past, it doesn’t mean it can’t feel different moving forward.

  • You can browse our therapists’ bios on our team page. If you have questions or need additional assistance finding the right therapist, please contact us via our contact form or send your inquiry to info@awelcominghomepsychotherapy.ca

  • During your first therapy session, you can expect to discuss your reasons for seeking therapy, your goals, and your medical and mental health history. Your therapist may also ask questions about your current symptoms and how they are impacting your daily life.

  • Most services provided by our Registered Psychotherapists (RP) and Registered Social Workers (RSW) are covered by most extended health benefit and insurance plans. Coverage can vary depending on your individual provider and policy, so we recommend checking with your insurance company to confirm your coverage details, including practitioner type and reimbursement amounts.

While we do not offer direct billing, we provide detailed receipts with all the information needed for you to submit claims for reimbursement. If you have any questions about coverage or the reimbursement process, our team is always happy to help.

  • All therapy sessions (including initial intake and follow-up) are 50 minutes.

  • Yes, your privacy and confidentiality are deeply important to us. Everything shared in therapy is kept confidential and protected in accordance with professional and legal standards set by our regulatory colleges. There are a few rare exceptions to confidentiality related to safety concerns or legal obligations, which your therapist will review with you at the beginning of the therapy process!

For virtual therapy sessions, we use Jane, a secure and encrypted platform designed specifically for healthcare professionals to help ensure your personal information and sessions remain protected.

  • We offer in-person therapy sessions at our office located in Liberty Village at 60 Atlantic Avenue, Toronto. We also offer virtual therapy sessions for clients located across Ontario, providing flexible support from the comfort of your own space.

  • You can click here on any of the “Book An Appointment” or  “Book A Consultation” buttons throughout the website (also at the top of the page). You will be directed to our scheduling system, Jane. From there, you can schedule with your selected therapist, complete online forms, reschedule or cancel appointments and message your therapist.
